Final touch ups done!

Well im pretty much finished now.
I double checked everything and made sure that all the files were posted up correctly in the folders that i made.
Well that is it, and now it is time to submit.
Ellen if you are reading this, i just want to say thankyou for all your help throughout this semester.
I've enjoyed your teachings and your very friendly and caring personality.
I would like to wish you all the best in life!
Take care and god bless!

The little things that you discover

Ellen was right when she told me that i should try shortening some of the file names. After doing that, my pictures thumbnail came up and now you can see them. The file name was probably too long that's why it couldn't fit the thumbnail picture?

Another discovery that i made the other day and forgot to blog about was that i can change files into pdf using my scanner program. Well, only the documents that i scan of course. I scanned all my certificates and was able to change them to pdf format. yay!

I got rid of a few folders in my information architecture. I didn't have much to put in there i realised so there was no point of it being there for now. Not that i don't have any plans to write up for my 'plans' folder, its just that there isn't a whole list for each section as i had imagined up in my contents inventory. Maybe as time goes by, i will have more plans for myself. At the moment, just trying to make it through my degree.

Thats my little discovery for the day. I already submitted this assignment in but thought that i'd blog about what i figured out today. lol

Huong

edit: i wasn't sure if i was allowed to post up lyrics but i remember hearing Ellen tell someone that they weren't allowed to post up songs unless its their own or they've gotten permission to but they can post up music lyrics. If you can't, can someone e-mail me and i'll take the lyrics off my e-portfolio. I referenced properly though and did provide a link to its' original source. *sighs

Guess im not talented at these kind of things

Being the curious person that i am, i took to exploring some of my class mates' e-portfolios just to get a feel of what im doing right or wrong. Some people's e-portfolios look really "hectic". For example, Georgina and Jess did all this html and coding stuff with their e-portfolio layout. I didn't even think of getting a crash course in that because being me, it will take me at least awhile to learn. I'm not too quick with this computer stuff. Georgina taught me how to change the layout setting for this e-portfolio site. The layout at the moment looks better than before right?

I gave up on trying to figure out all the html coding stuff with some of my documents. I am just going to stick to using word document as outlined in my contents inventory. I guess i can always change things around in the future. I have to keep reminding myself that everything on this e-portfolio can be changed and that i can keep building upon it.

I enjoyed uploading all my certificates because once again, i had to drag myself around the house looking for them. Thats right, i'm lazy and none of my certificates are framed. It brought such memories looking at certificates such as the one i got in year 7 or the one i got when from the Westmead Children's Hospital. That i have to say has to be the most memorable one. Oh how i love doing this e-portfolio and having to look through all the artefacts that did have some impact upon my life or learning experience. *tear. lol

I might be removing some artefacts that were mentioned in my contents inventory. Some i just can't get hold of due to copyright issues and i can't think of a way to work around it. Others, it will take too long to create. However, i do have some artefacts up that haven't been mentioned in the contents inventory. Thats something new i guess. Hopefully people will take to my e-portfolio and won't find it 'boring' or anything. I have personally enjoyed doing this e-portfolio and learning how to overcome the complications. If it wasn't for this e-portfolio, i may never have learnt some things such as how to convert word to pdf, html coding, using mac computers, etc. All in all, it has been a good experience thus far.

Updated!

ok. I have recently updated things I need to do with my e-portfolio and I think it looks really good (so far). I think the audience will get to know me that much better and know my passion for this 'particular something.' I figured that there are some things that I will keep private and some that can only be accessed by logged in users. I modified my resume so that there was no address and stuff. I'm thinking why would they need it? Are they going to come to my house and offer me a job? NO! So a number would do just fine.

I also had to xxx some reference numbers because I got a call from one of my managers a few weeks ago saying some crazy person called her and said the word "job" and "eddie." I was like WTF!

I think that I shouldn't put too much personal information about me because this is an "E"-portfolio which means that anybody in the world can have access to this, even stalkers. I know one thing for sure is that I have learnt a lot of new things about creating this e-portfolio and about myself (I think).

Well it's all updated so now I play the waiting game.

I hope that who ever reads this enjoys this as much as I enjoy creating it.

I also like to emphasise that an e-portfolio is like a rock. It might look dull and worthless on the outside, but if you try look hard enough, you might see things that you would have never imagined of all the things it went through in its lifetime. Do you get what I mean? I don't... but it sounds cool.

ANYWAYS ENJOY!

Interesting . .

I've just recently learnt from Georgina that you can change the format and displays of this whole thing.
Georgina knew allot about programing and web-design so she managed to change the colours and made her own customized background for the whole site.
Very impressive, but i have yet to learn how to do that, but i've changed mine already by going through some settings on this site, so it was pretty interesting.
Well im nearly done, with posting up all my artefacts and files to complete my e-portfolio.
So im just going to do some final touch ups and check everything.
My learning experience throughout this subject has been very enjoyable and i hope i can continue something like this in the future.

Mirror! Mirror! On the wall . . . - Episode 5 *FINALE*

Have I changed at all? This is the question I am currently asking myself at the end of what is pretty much another school year. Having completed roughly 12 weeks of e-portfolio, I have to admit that it’s been quite a journey, one which has involved a lot of self-reflection and thinking.

At the beginning, this journey had a vague destination and as each week passed by at frightening speeds what with all the assignments, work and life’s problems to worry about. The first stop in reflection for this subject was when we were required to write a digital story for our e-portfolio. At the time, I had very little idea on what I would conjure up, so I decided to stick with a short script, which took bits and pieces out of actual events during my life. Looking back at the script more than half a semester later has left me wondering how much better I am in my current position. Of course, after reading my story again, there’s no doubt that I’ve changed and achieved a fair bit since then, something which I’m proud of =)

Things didn’t get interesting until we had to dig for hidden and buried treasures/artefacts, things which held some sort of sentiment or relation to our learning experiences. Pool was one of the first things which came to my mind as I’ve spent the past year or so playing pool once a week with two of my closest mates from high school. As a result of this treasure digging, it’s quite amazing to see the progress and improvement made from when I first started playing pool at the beginning of last year.

Another artefact I found revolved around my favourite past times of games. In particular, Warcraft 3 was one of those games, which consumed a countless number of sleeping hours throughout the year. And well… this game is damn popular (even now and for a long time to come) and aside from having improved in learning how to play this game, I’ve made a lot of social contacts with other gamers. I think it’s quite something to realise how many millions of people around my age play this game and the endless possibilities of social interactions involved between these people. Guess I also have the internet to thank for that.

A few other important artefacts include my TAFE transcripts and resume. This subject and course in general continued to emphasise the interrelatedness between career and education. And now, my mind is continually being boggled with what sort of career/education path/s I would follow in the future. The photo artefacts were the more touching and emotional part of this journey. Instead of finding a few photos to put onto my e-portfolio, I spent most of the time reminiscing the good times of which all those photos captured =*).

One of the activities we did in class involved finding a piece of music/song, which would reflect what our e-portfolios are about. If I were to choose any song that best represents everything that this subject has taught me from the journey, reflection to the learning experiences and great time I had with class mates, it would be:

Green Day – Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)

I’d love to post up and share this song, but that would infringe on copyright HAHA XD

Overall, I have to say that this subject was quite fun as there was always something interesting that would be happening in class relating to our e-portfolios. One of those would be learning how to use the MACs. They are pretty nifty, even though the ones we used were much older than the better-looking and faster white ones I usually see around campus.

Well, hope you’ve enjoyed this series… which strangely enough never actually had a name, but I’ll leave it up to your imagination to come up with one =)

Remember, it’s not the destination that matters the most, but the journey, learning and development that is undertaken, which enriches us. And I reckon my e-portfolio has mirrored part of that journey.

THE END

Woohoo! - Episode 4

Just completed my e-portfolio and spiced up the games and interests section. One small issue is that most of the files on the site are .MHT instead of HTML, which can be downloaded like normal web pages.

The reason for using the MHT format is because all the pictures and links, etc are contained withing one file whereas HTML requires the user to place external links to pictures. So for the sake and convenience of your viewing pleasure, MHT would be more appropriate.

The following sections will contain MHT files:
- Home/Index
- Purpose
- Disclaimer
- Games/Warcraft 3

The other files within the site will follow the usual HTML format.

Also, there is an 'Academia' folder, which contains a copy of my information architecture, 1st eportfolio assignment & my digital story.

On the next episode, we'll be concluding our exciting series, so don't miss the finale!

Aliens have invaded the earth! They have decided to muck around with my site so that now, they've added some photos on my eportfolio and informed all the employers about my resume. Strangely enough, my Uni/Life and Career blog pages have also been modified to redirect to my long time blog at Xanga.com I better get rid of these guys before they stir any more strouble for me T_T"

Converting to pee dee ef

It is official. My e-portfolio will be comprised with three main section and several sub folders in each. I have started to create my artefacts through word document. However, one thing that has bothered me is that people can change and format of what I intended to put it. I was thinking about copyright laws and how it can affect my piece so I came up with a decision to turn my documents that I created in Word and convert them to a pdf file.

The problem was that I didn't know how to do it. But after searching through google on how to create one, I finally now know. Not hard indeed but it does take some time and patience. Yes google is everybody's friend as it can help you with anything. Google even taught me different meanings of what is e-portfolio.

So some of my artefacts are already converted to pdf and have already been uploaded. I won't have to think about people editing my stuff now, which is a good thing.

I can see that my e-portfolio has gone a through a series of changes and it doesn't look like what I initially intended it to be. This is because of the new things I learnt in this subjec and I guess I can see that change is inevitable. I just need to add some pictures to my e-portfolio so that it won't look boring. Until then, only time will tell.

Copyright, copyleft

So I started going through my Assignement 2 Part 2 of this subject which is a table of all my artefacts that i will be puting in this e-portfolio. It basically gives a brief description, location, format and any copyright issues that may arise.

Ellen (the lecturer) strongly emphasised the importance of copyright issues. That anything that is not yours can not be uploaded onto our e-portfolio unless with consent. That was a big blow as I was going to upload music here but I guess I can't since I'll be breaking copyright laws.

This however, has made me make slight changes as to the format and structure of my e-portfolio. I will not be having a Music folder so an alternative must be made in order to surrogate what what was intended to be there in the first place. Therefore, this has made me very meticulous as what information I will be adding. Whilst it is based on individual circumstances, there are things that may need external sources in order to clarify parts that are not easily understood when expressed by word of mouth such as the automotive section.

Currently, I have now formed the folders that I will need for my e-portfolio and I hope I don't change anything. If I do, then............ GRRRR!!!!

Last e-portfolio class

Today is our last class,
We finished of with a discussion of some of the things we have learnt through out this subject.
I think one of the main things i've learnt from this subject is the actual meaning of e-portfolios.
Before i even started this subject i had no idea what e-portfolios where.
My idea of it was some sort of electronic learning or recordings.
So when i actually did find out what it was, i found out that its not as complicated as i thought it would be.
This whole e-portfolio subject is based on a learning log and recordings on a website.
Because i didn't really do much web-designing before, i thought it would be hard for me to do this subject and to design your own website.
But all the clear and simple steps and instructions have helped me through this learning process and im already starting to upload all of my files and trying to design it as best as i can.
This is great, because it also helpes me develop my web-design skills and all the other things i didn't know about web-design and e-portfolios earlier.

Thats all for today,

Reflection is the key

I'm in my last e-portfolio class at the moment. We just finished reflecting individually and collectively about what we've learnt from the class. I guess i have learnt alot this semester about e-portfolios and what it is all about. For example, just then i learnt from Ellen how to insert a picture into a "html" file. It doesn't seem that difficult but when you click on "view source", all these weird codes come up. Ellen told us to just look for the "img" file and then insert our photo link into there. Hopefully it will work when i get home.

I figured out how to convert a word document to a pdf file. I think its a feature on the mac computers at uni but at home, i would have to somehow get hold of the program. Not enough time to do that at the moment. I am going to just put all my files as word documents and perhaps later on, when i do get the software, convert all my files then. I did do some at uni though but with so many documents, i didn't do it all.

Edit: just got home from uni and i'm trying to experiment with the whole html, inserting picture thing. For some reason it isnt working. I've tried like quite a few times too. I also asked my friend who does all these "coding" type things for web pages at uni to help. It doesn't work for her either. She said it might have something to do with the internet explorer and it might work on another explorer like 'Mozilla'. Now i am getting stressed out. If worse comes to worse, i am just going to upload it as a word document. I might just use html to upload all my photos and thats about it.

Right now, i have to scan all my certificates for my e-portfolio and write up a few more artefacts, then i will be done. *fingers crossed.

Busy Week! - Episode 2

About time I have the chance to spruce up my e-portfolio a bit, so far, I've created all my folders according to my information architecture, updated my profile and uploaded a couple of my artefacts. There'll be more goodies in the form of HTML files and jpegs during the weekend =) After all that, a reflection of my eportfolio and experiences in this subject will follow.

I had work from 12 - 8pm on Monday, Tuesday AND Wednesday T_T" It was so tiring!!!

Anywho, off to a party tonight to get rid of that excess stress =) Have a good weekend everybody!

Came from Squash!

Hey i just came from a good work out.
Played squash with a couple of friends just then.
Well anyway.. i have finished creating all my folders.
So now i will have to work out what files i need to put in there.
Since i have a storage upload limit, i have to pic out small files and pictures to put up there.
That i will have to work out very soon.
This website is easy to operate and anyone would learn how to use it quickly. So im enjoying this at the moment.
Im planning on posting up some Midi files ( music samples of my bands original songs ) which would be great because midi files are small.
Im also planning to post up more text files of descriptions and some pictures of friends and things.
So that would be pretty cool!
Well i better get all of that started then!
cya!

How to do?

My e-portfolio is starting to take shape. A few more blog entries and more artefacts, then it will really be an e-portfolio. Yesterday night, i tried to figure out how to convert a word document file into PDF format. I don't mind it being in Word or anything but changing it to a PDF file would prevent people from editing and perhaps, copying and pasting. I tried to Google it and did find like a zillion results which were of no help. It said something about having to have this software, then install it as a printer and then Word will convert it to PDF form. I think you might have to buy the software though =S. Georgina emailed Ellen (our lecturer), so hopefully she knows how to.

At the UTS computer labs at the moment doing this entry. Everyone from the other class seems to be approaching their e-portfolio differently. Its kind of confusing. I gotta admit though, this e-portfolio project isn't too challenging but it does require alot of reflection and thought put into in. I wonder if we're able to drag and drop our artefacts from one folder to the other. Yesterday i wanted to move a picture to another folder but there was no "move" option so i had to delte the file and then upload it all over again. Is there any shortcut to doing this? Doing this e-portfolio requires so much experimentation and browsing around in order to learn how to build and put all my artefacts together. The e-portfolio within itself is a learning process for me.

I remember back to the beginning of the semester and my initial thought of this subject. How does an e-portfolio in any way relate to what the course is all about. Thus far, i have not been able to establish an immediate connection but as i've been creating my own e-portfolio, i have come to grasp its' importance. The e-portfolio has helped me in various ways, especially in building a repository of artefacts that i would be able to continuously refer to. It is so much easier to have acces to the important documents that has contributed to my learning and have the ability to retrieve them at the click of a button. Without the e-portfolio, i would not have even tried to search my computer to find past documents or even had the thought to reorganise everything. I will most likely continue to upload artefacts onto this e-portfolio even after the project as it is such a good management tool.

I kind of wish i had learnt or taken interest in computer/ web based kind of stuff. If i had, i wouldn't find all this html and converting files so difficult. I guess this presents another advantage of the e-portfolio for me. As i continue to use the e-portfolio, i will come across challanges that i would have to eventually overcome. Hence, i will be able to learn more about all this web based stuff. I mean, learning to use the MAC at uni during our e-portfolio tutorials was pretty frustrating but i got over it and now have gained some background knowledge in using the MAC. All in all, everything works out in the end =D.

Wednesday night

Hey again..
I read through some e-portfolio stuff just then,
And i've just noticed how much you learn from just experimenting with all the different options and things that are on this website.
SOon i will be posting up all my files and documents.
I also read through the module and it was pretty good, and i have a better idea of how to structure everything so that it will be neat and easy to operate.
My experience so far in my learning journey for this subject has been a very enjoyable and non-stressfull development as i learn more and more new things about computer software and options.
Because i like computers it makes this subject even more enjoyable.
This way i will be able to learn and also keep a record of all my learnings not only from this subject but from other subjects aswell.

Well its getting late..
Untill next time,
Take care and god bless

Digging up things from the past

At the moment i am contemplating whether to finish collecting all my artefacts or to post them as i go. I'm getting abit confused. Right now i am trying to find a decent calender to post up. Should i make my own or should i just get one from the net? Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Also having abit of trouble with the "movies/tv shows review" part of my e-portfolio. I don't think i wil be able to post pictures up of scenes from tv shows or anything due to copyright issues. Who knew there was so much to consider before publishing something on the net? Even with my personal blog, i have never really considered all these copyright issues. It has really made me aware of how the content of my e-portfolio could effect others, therefore making me more concious of the artefacts i post up or of the things i write about in my blog.

I've been going through past high school assignments in order to choose some to post up as examples of what i've learnt at school. It really brings back memories. Some better than others. Not only this, but when i compared the standard of my work from high school to university, i realised that theres been a change. For example, there was hardly any references in my documents back then but now, practically every sentence within my essays is referenced. I guess i have made the transistion to uni after all (something which at the beginning of the year, i didnt think i could do). If it wasn't for doing this project, i doubt i would ever look back or reflect upon my past work or learning experiences. Figures.

I might change some things about my e-portfolio. Ellen was right when she mentioned that as we actually start doing our e-portfolio, we might make a few changes. Looking at my 'contents inventory', there are a few artefacts that i might not put up anymore due to copyright issues. I doubt i'll be able to get formal permission from the person who took certain photos and if i did, it would take awhile. My e-portfolio would be fine without those pictures anyways.

How would i go about making my e-portfolio look "pretty". Im not too sure and being computer illiterate as i am, it would take forever for me to figure out. I tried browsing around this space but failed to find anything that could be of any help. Maybe i am looking in the wrong places. I shall make a mental note to remember to ask the lecturer. Making it "pretty" isn't such a big concern for me but it would be nice to make it look easy on the eye ;).

Another monday

Well, im just sitting here now, infront of my computer resting and relaxing after an afternoon jog.
It was tiring but i have to get some exercise going on in my life.
So this morning was as usuall, i went to work (drum teaching) from 8.30am - 3.30pm.
That went alright.
Ohh about the weekend, on friday when i came home i had the local newspaper, photoshoot and interview. It didn't really take long, and we got asked a few questions about our band and things.
So it wasn't too bad.
On saturday i went to Marconi club in the morning. All the leaders of our church went there to have a big meeting about all our ministries in our church, which includes, childrens ministry, Youth ministry and young adults ministry.
So that went pretty well, after that i had to go to work at my parents restaurant.
There was a booking for 70 people. It was a little girls b'day party. She was turning 4 years old.
There was so many people! i've gotta say, thats one lucky girl.

Then next comes sunday! I picked up my little cousines in the morning to take them to sunday school and kids club at my church.
It was their first ever visit, so they were abit shy.. but at the end of they day they really liked it and asked me if they could come back next week!
So i was happy about that! =)
So sunday was fun, church was good and yeah.. always good for fellowship.
Thats about it from what i've done so far.

E-portfolio:
Now about this subject, i find it really helpfull and i've learnt allot about structure and academic recording through this subject alone.
This is a great way to keep a record of all me learnings. In the last few classes i have started to create folders for all my artefacts. So it is now time to post up some files and texts in those folder.

Well untill next time,
take care and god bless,

VTEC yo!!!

On Saturday night was my close mates 21st birthday and when I saw him that night, his car was gone. Gone as in he sold it. I was very devastated as I loved his car as it epitomised the dominance of VTEC in the automotive industry. He sold his white Integra type R and now it would never be seen again. What a great present... to never see your car again.

Well the reason why I brought this up is not to blab on about my weekend. However, it is to bring up a topic that is related to one of my artefacts on my e-portfolio. This has led to me discussing different VTEC powerplants and which car has which engine. It was because of that night that led me to come up with an artefact where I can compare and contrast my car with his car and demonstrate to the audience the variations between the two especially.

All these artefacts will placed in the Temple of VTEC folder as this section will discuss how VTEC works and why it has become so popular for young enthusiasts. This will also be related to another one of my artefacts called Project Teg where one car would be turned into a NA machine.

Contemplating...

Thinking back about the times when I first started this subject, I was very sceptical that it would ever help me with my studies as there was no theories or application what so ever. It was rather more practical based.

However, it was during the times in class that I would always learn something new. I don't have a strong background in computers so I think that is one of the contributing factors that led me think so negatively.

At the moment, I am looking at my diagram that I created as one of my assignment requirements and I can see the structure that my e-portfolio will be constructed. Whilst looking at it, it sometimes gives me a headache. I can certainly visualise how my e-portfolio will look like and its end result. I can see something really neat and well presented but I guess it just depends on how motivated I am to progressively update it.

I know for a fact that it is not going to take a few minutes to complete this, but weeks. Only time would tell as to how far I go with my artefacts that I put in my e-portfolio.

Posted by esugito | 0 comment(s)

The start of something new

So after figuring out my information architecture and getting the 'all clear' sign to go from my lecturer, i began creating the structure for my e-portfolio. It was abit confusing at first to try and figure out all my folders without my actual hierarchy with me but i did what i could at the time. Now it is all up and running.

The main task right now is to collect all the artefacts that i intend to feature in my e-portfolio. I hope after some time, with more artefacts up and running, i would get a "feel" for my e-portfolio. A "feel" as in, beginning to see it as something that reflects me and what i've done. Most of my artefacts are things that i have collected in the past already such as my resume, sample school assignments, sample university assignments, photos, etc but there are things that i would have to collect or make from scratch such as a monthly calender, song lyrics, etc. Feels like i don't have enough time.

Now i understand why the e-portfolio is like a lifetime's worth of achievements because you really just can't add everything to it at once but rather overtime, continue to update and add more artefacts. I'm kind of excited about starting this. It's very different from a personal blog or website. I just hope that once i actually start building this e-portfolio up that i will continue to relate and check back to it. Hopefully, this will become a long-term project that i don't give up on.

So what is e-portfolio?

I remember the first time I heard about this subject called e-portfolio and I was thinking to myself "oh my! not a computer subject." But during the following weeks that came, I started to see how things started to form and take shape in this subject.

The word e-portfolio did not ring any bells in my head and I had no clue as to what it was. I knew for a fact that it would be computer based with the letter 'E' in the word which stands for electronic.

So after all those weeks porcrastinating about my learning in this subject, I have finally understood what e-portfolio is and why it is so useful. I know now that an e-portfolio is a well designed collection of electronic documents that demonstrate my skills, education, personal development and the benefits it offer to my audience.

From a personal perspective, I think creating this e-portfolio will allow me to draw on my experiences and share stories that I would like to reveal by taking others to join in on a journey with me. That way, I will have to communicate, learn and assemble all these documents easily in my e-portfolio.

I hope that I continue to update this e-portfolio on a regular basis as I think it will benefit me in the long run. As long I don't get lazy, I'm very positive that this will be one e-portfolio where the benefits will outweigh the time put into it.

1st Blog! - Episode 1

Alrights, first blog ever for this e-portfolio. There's nothing much on my site atm, but i'll upload new things throughout the coming week and hopefully, by then, i'll have satisfied the criteria for this subject =)

Time has flew by pretty quickly too! I can't believe it's the end of 1st year already... only a few more weeks left... wonder if next year's going to be as fun?

On the other hand, I've started working several shifts at Cotton On World Square and that's been freaking tiring T_T" But hey, it's always a great learning experience when starting out in a new job what with meeting new people and all.

We'll see how this all unfolds in the next episode, so until then, hold on tight ^_^

Today's Class . .

Well.. i am sitting here in class..
my week so far has been quite busy.. but fun aswell..
i picked up my first car on sunday..
it was a really exciting impact.. and i started driving it on tuesday.. now instead of catching the bus to station i can drive there my self.
so it feels really good and im really happy..
And today is another pretty exciting day, as my band is getting interviewed by our local newspaper.
So after this class i have to rush back home and get ready for that because there is a photo shoot invovled aswell.
so yeah pretty cool stuff! i will be on newspaper!!!
=)
well thats my entry for today..
untill next time,
take care and god bless all! =)

You may recall the impact of the training event figures? Only 7% of impact / transfer of learning occurs as a result of the training (classroom) session!

Here's a link to another useful piece of work on planning & evaluation from Brinkerhoff:
