Final Statement

I have finished! Overall, this process has been rather challenging in
parts but also very enjoyable. As i have mentioned before in this blog,
I have never created anything like this and so there was alot to learn.
As I began this assessment I wasn't sure of what the outcome would be.
However I am proud of my efforts with this assessment.

Copyright has been quite a large issue for me when looking at different
artefacts I wanted to put on this eportfolio. For example, as I am a huge
music fan, I wanted to put copies of past tickets on the eportfolio.
However after contacting ticketek to inquire about privacy issues, they
encouraged me that although it isnt "illegal", they would strongly
advise against it, as the pictures could be interpreted as ones that are
being sold, which of course is illegal. So that idea went out the window
quickly! I was rather disapointed that i couldn't put these tickets on
the eportfolio as further artefacts, but its better to be safe than sorry!

When we were gathered in groups in our final class, discussing what we
had learnt over this semester, I came to the realisation that I really
have learnt alot. About apple mac computers (!) as well as myself. Talking
about various issues allows you to reflect and take a look at your life and
what you have accomplished. An eportfolio is just like a window that allows
other to see certain aspects of your life, that they would no tusually see.
Which i find to be so beneficial, especially when these people are potential
employers.

This experience has been very enjoyable and I promise to constantly update
this eportfolio as I continue my educational Journey!

Last Minute Changes....

As I was looking over my eportfolio today I decided to delete a couple
of folders. I know it is due today and this is a rather large change
but I felt that folders such as About Me, were summed up in my eportfolio
profile as well as topics such as interests and my family and friends.
I say this because, these issues make up who i am, therefore I found
the about me page too much. I also deleted Future Goals. I understand
that this assessment is based around our academia but I really do
not know what i will be doing in the future, and to be honest I don't
know what i want. As ideas form and further work is completed, I will
put it on here, however, at the present time, I feel it is uneccessary.

I have also decided not to put a sample of my work on to the eportfolio.
At first I thought this was a good idea, however to me, this work is
private. If a potential employer contacts me (via this site or the
email address supplied), I am happy to send them work.

Reflection.

This eportfolio experience has been both interesting, and frustrating at the same.
I have learnt all about copyright issues and have discovered the true meaning of an eportfolio.
Over the couse of the creation of my Eportfolio, i have chopped and changed ideas and layout to a way which abides by copyright and is easier to use and understand,
I have been frustrated however with the fact that i could not be as creative as i wished with colour and layout of my eportfolio.
I was unable to change my layout to the bright colours i had originally imagined. However, the colour scheme etc now, is much more sophisticated which may be good from an employers perspective.
I found that i was easily able to understand the structure of the eportfolio, but was thrown off with the fact that each document is loaded on demand, as opposed to automatically.
I am glad to finally be finished, as i found this process a little frustrating and fiddley, as well as detailed. Detail and attention spand are not my high points, so I was easily distracted and put off. however i have managed to get this far, and that has got to say something about my growht,
I believe i have grown through this experience as it has been thought provoking and challenging, as computers are not my strength. I am glad to have experienced this design process, but now the challeng will be to keep it updated.
I look forward to using my eportfolio in the future for all kinds of things.
Signing out..

Last class for semester...

Hey,
Today we wrapped E- portfolio class. We had a discussion on what we have learnt and reflected on the e- portfolio experience.
I have leant alot during this process including how to use a Mac computer, learning about the extent to copyright issues and learning how an e- portfolio is a visual means for others to learn about who i am.
I have been finishing up my final touches (before submission) of my eportfolio and have discovered that i did not set it out quite as i had imagined. I changed some of my artefacts to fit with copyright issues, and also changed the layout of my resume because i wanted to increase the white space of the page and make it visually more pleasing. I believe that the way i have designed and laid out my eportfolio is simple and easy to understand and comprehend.
Over and out.

Our last class....

Our eportfolio journey has come to an end. On top of finalising various parts of my e-portfolio, we also gathered in groups to discuss what we have learnt this semester.

My group, consisting of Carmelita, Lucy, Anna, Tess and myself, decided that we have developed our computer skills. Especially those of us, such as myself, who have never used a mac computer. It has been an ...interesting experience of learning new commands and such. For example, converting a word document into HTML format.

But in the end, after all the highs and lows of creating an eportfolio, we have all thoroughly enjoyed the subject. Our lecturer, Ellen, has been very accomodating and aided us in any areas that we have needed assistance with.

From our experiences within E-portfolio we have also learnt not to mix two separate programs. Such as attempting to add a myspace background into the digital dialogues setting.

I believe the most beneficial lesson we have learnt is that an eportfolio is a digital representation of ourselves, and people form opinions about us based on what they see in cyberspace. We have learnt that we must analyse any document we add to our eportfolio, as everything gives a certain impression, whether you intend it to or not.

Searching through artefacts....

As my e-portfolio is taking shape, I am just altering and editing the various artefacts that i have chosen to display. In particular, I am just looking over the different photos that I am including. I found this aspect of the eportfolio rather challenging.

For the reason that, there are many audiences that will be viewing this eportfolio. I have to ensure that all of the photos accomodate each groups needs and are suitable. I will not find this hard with photos of my family and work related topics. However when i put photos of my group of friends into the eportfolio, I have to be wary of the kind of image I am portraying...if you understand...

But I have chosen photos that are suitable and I believe they give the responder a good insight into my life and what I enjoy doing in my spare time.

And the process continues....

Just thought I would have another entry to "reflect" on this eportfolio process as a whole. This learning journey started with me having absolutely no clue on where to start, and I also didnt want to share alot of information about myself with other people, especially those who I don't know as well as some of my friends.

But then when I really thought about it, starting this eportfolio is really a lot like starting out at uni or a new school. You just have to use every experience to further your knowledge and use it to your advantage.

After looking over the three key sections of my eportfolio, I have seen how it has been developed since we designed our first "mind map" weeks ago. This semester has gone so fast but through the process of this eportfolio, I have seen how my knowledge of this topic has been moulded and defined.

E- portfolio progress

Hi,
tonight i have been trying to tie my e- portfolio together. I have been doing this by making my artefacts and my personal textual input line up, and relate.
This is a bit challenging, as going in and out of each file to upload or delete files has proved to be quite a challenge for my memory.
On the up side, it is all coming together quite well otherwise, and the experience is broadening my knowlege on computer skills.
i believe this experience will benefit me in later life, as i will already have a basic understanding of what could be included on an eportfolio, and how to place it all of the pieces together coherently.
Back to work now.

Yet another day in the life of me...

My third blog entry. Not much has changed around here. Files are being uploaded into this e-portfolio, for your future enjoyment :). The three different sections now have various pieces of information that is useful to alot of people, depending on why they have visited my eportfolio in particular.

My friends can read about my interests and what I think of them! Not that i have written anything embarrassing or bad about any of them....and work colleagues as well as potential employees are able to see where i have worked in the past, read about my current studies, as well as view my constantly updated resume.

I have found this whole experience alot harder than i first expected. As I wrote in my first blog, i studied computing throughout my schooling career but never came across something like this. All of the formatting and things like that are really different to what i have been taught so I think that was my main hurdle.

In class last week we were just adding new pieces to our eportfolios, and it was here that i came to the realisation that i really have learnt alot more than I thought. There are so many new concepts to learn about when you are creating one of those things and I think I am starting to place the puzzle pieces together! hooray!

Hey,
Today I have been working on my E- portfolio. I have noticed that as time has gone by, I have better understood the reasoning behind creating an e-portfolio and it has provided me with the opportunity to reflect on who I am, as a person.
The process of developing my E- portfolio has acted as a catalyst for thought. I have learnt a few new things about myself, and about my capabilities. Before this process began, i would never have been able to describe to anyone what an E-portfolio was, or consisted of. I now have a much clearer understanding and broader knowledge of myself and E-portfolios alike
Anyway,
Bye

The due date is getting closer...

Hi again,
We have received an extension to complete this eportfolio, so it is
now due in a weeks time. I hope to finish it by friday though. Currently
I have typed up all of my information in word documents on my pc. Now
I just have to attach them to each file that has already been created
in my eportfolio!

I have thoroughly enjoyed writing about my current studies as it has
allowed me to reflect on how i have found my first year and what i hope
to achieve in the next few years. This has especially been beneficial as I
am currently trying to change from a BAOL to a BAOL with international
studies attached it it. By writing about my current education, i have
been able to figure out exactly why i want to go overseas for the year and
what i hope to achieve by doing this.

Anotber activity that i have enjoyed is writing about my main interest, being
music and everything that falls within that category. I have always
had a love for music, not in the theory form, but i think music
can always help you express how you're feeling in various forms. It
can change depending on your character and personality, which i think is awesome.
By writing about it, i was able to express why music is so important
to me!

Until next time...

My First Entry....

Yes it may be a little later than some other blog entries, but i have really needed to take time to figure out what i would write in this blog. This whole experience of learning to create an e-portfolio has been very interesting process. Although i did computing studies in year 11 and 12 in highschool, I never actually created an e-portfolio. I always learnt what it was and why they were created, however we never put this into practice. This whole process, has definetly been more difficult than i was expecting.

Over the past thirteen weeks, we have learnt about different aspects of the e-portfolio that i have continuously incorporated into my assignment. My eportfolio will have three main sections that i have created, these being "All About Me", "Academia" and "Resume".

So far i have really enjoyed creating this e-portfolio, i will try to update this blog more often as i progress and keep you posted, so bye for now!

Welcome

Hi,
This is my first blog entry.
I am currently in the process of creating my E- portfolio. This is both challenging and interesting. Learning how to upload artefacts as well as learning how to layout my e- portfolio is taking more time and research than i had originally expected. I am learning alot about the level of ability i have at the moment, and how quickly i can learn and adapt.
Anyway, back to designing for me.

ROI & Expectations

Here's a link to a thought provoking article on ROI:
It quotes Robert Brinkerhoff who has written extensively on the impact of training from the HRD perspective....
You may recall the impact of the training event figures? Only 7% of impact / transfer of learning occurs as a result of the training (classroom) session!

Here's a link to another useful piece of work on planning & evaluation from Brinkerhoff:

New Communication strategies.....

Here's an article from Chief Learning Officer - New Communication Strategies Offer Old World Results
It may be of interest as we work through our plans for integrating e-Learning into the business!
Here's an excerpt:
"Communication for the modern business is like air for the human body, and learning organizations inside today’s modern businesses have to contend with a variety of challenges. These include communicating across global business lines, evaluating the best delivery methods and creating influential learning activities that meet identified business strategies as well as personal and professional career development objectives for key talent in the workforce. No matter which task CLOs set for themselves and their direct reports, there will be some element of communication required, and the more effective the communication, the higher the potential for learning success.

Dianna Booher, president and CEO, Booher Consultants Inc., has done research on the ins and outs of business communication and has established 10 Cs of communication or strategies to communicate more effectively and purposefully. If you’re having problems, ask yourself if communication in your learning organization is: correct? complete? current? clear? purposefully un-clear? credible? concerned? competent? circular? If not, your work might be harder than it needs to be, and a communication overhaul might be in order."

Not really rocket science - and not really anything new...but there's a couple of clear messages about how you article your plans.

What makes good educational research?

I'm currently attending a 2 day Education Faculty research conference....
There's been some interesting debate drifting around the corridors - what makes good educational research?
hmmmm - research that adds value to the practice of education?
Research that expands the body of knowledge about how people learn?

The afternoon workshop on "Supervision - from both sides" - facilitated by Clive Chappell and Dave Boud - was very thought provoking about the role of the supervisor in research contexts - and the responsbility of the students/candidates...more on that later!

Ongoing e-Portfolios

All the 1st year students should now have completed the set-up of their e-Portfolios. It might be the end of a subject and end of a semester, but it's just the start of the e-Portfolio development.

Over the semester break this ELGG installation will be upgraded - so if you notice the layout/look alters slightly - we've just done an upgrade - that means more goodies!

In the meantime - enjoy working in this space - see you next semester!
